Story

This song is an old-style guitar-led jazz combo (complete with bongo drums) idealized (without tourist traps and traffic congestion) look at a drive up the US West Coast in a '65 Ford Mustang convertible with the top down. Think about cool little towns on smooth bays, big waves crashing dramatically into craggy cliffs, and hip little shops and restaurants with great wine and seafood for rest stops.

Story

We've all been there. The one with whom we want to be is madly, crazily in love with someone else, and that someone else takes advantage and even dishes out some bad treatment. But the one to whom we are attracted doesn't seem to notice the ill treatment until it is too late and then wants to get far, far away. Do you try to attract your "interests" attention; do you risk being a rebound; do you risk rejection? That's what this song is about. It's simple, to the point, guitar-bass-drums-vocal, but not too polished as to leave a little tension and angst in the mix.

Lyrics

He was a fool,

Didn't do right by you,

So there was nothing else you could do.

He did you wrong,

But you hung in there too long,

And all the time so all alone.

Chorus

(But) Why can't you stay, here with me?

Why must you go away?

Why can't you stay, and fall in love again?

Why can't you stay, here with me?

Why must you go away?

Why can't you stay, and fall in love again?

I'm not that fool,

You know I would love you,

'Cause there's nothing else I could do.

So, don't go away,

Turnaround and look back this way,

Tell me, is there something else I can say?

(Chorus)

(Bridge)

Why can't you stay and fall in love again?

Why can't you stay and fall in love?

Why can't you stay and fall in love again, love again?

Why can't you stay and fall in love again?

I'm not that fool,

You know I would love you,

'Cause there's nothing else I could do.

So, don't go away,

Turnaround and walk back this way,

Tell me, is there something else I can say?

(Chorus and Repeats)

Story

It's nighttime. We're on a Caribbean island. It's a bit humid but there's a nice breeze coming off the ocean. There's music, dancing, and a parade. Everyone is buzzed, but it's a mellow buzz. Enjoy.

Story

This song is a reminder to myself to not wait around for the "right time" to do "that thing" I really want to do, not to get stuck doing something I really don't want to do, to be accessible to and interested in the people and happenings around me, but not to hang out with people who don't really care. Time is passing too fast and life is just too damn short.

Lyrics

Driving down the highways,

Passing through another town,

Ignoring all the peoples,

Never plan to stay around.

Chasing ghosts and heroes,

Running from tears and fears,

Blind to all that's happening,

Never letting anyone near.

Chorus

Where are you going?

What are you going to do?

Where are you heading?

Are you just passing through?

Wasting all that's given,

And giving nothing back,

Not feeling love or forgiven,

Or really knowing where you're at.

You've got to stop and look around you,

'Cause the road goes on and on,

But you won't be forever,

Everything in life winds on down.

(Chorus)

(Musical Bridge)

(Repeat Second Verse)

(Chorus and Repeats)

Story

It's in the wee hours of the morning. I'm all alone in the studio laying down a lead guitar or funky bass track, kicking the drums, or floating on air through a vocal take. This is love.

Story

This is my take on the "latin lover." It's taken some time, you've been around the block...more than once, but you've finally found "the one."

Lyrics

If life is a dance in time, then I only want to swing it with you.

If love is the song of life, then I only want to sing it with you.

The speed of life down the tracks, moves so fast it blurs the view.

The wheel of love turns 'round, slows down, then stops with you.

Chorus

There is no other who sways me like you do.

I only want to dance with you.

There is no other who swoons me like you do.

I only want to dance with you….

I only want to dance with you.

If life is a dance in time, then I only want to swing it with you.

If love is the song of life, then I only want to sing it with you.

The beating of hearts counting time, not as one but beating as two,

The key of souls harmonized in the song I'm singing with you.

(Chorus)

(Musical Bridge)

If life is a dance in time, then I only want to swing it with you.

If love is the song of life, then I only want to sing it with you.

The time of life is too short to waste the moments that are too few.

The time for love is now, hold on I'll spin the world for you.

(Chorus and Repeats)

Lyrics

The sun glitters on the cool water.

The boat sits in the bay.

The horizon is calling,

Calling us away.

(Chorus)

I want to go sailing,

Sail for the faraway.

Do you want to go sailing…with me?

We can just sail away.

I want to go sailing,

Sail for the faraway.

Do you want to go sailing…with me?

We can just sail away.

Sail Away.

The land is hot and busy.

We be working all the day.

The dirt and crowds of the city life,

We should make a getaway.

(Chorus)

The land falls off in the distance,

As a clean wind blows us away.

In the moment, in the instant,

All our troubles fade away.

(Chorus)

(Musical Bridge)

The sun glitters on the cool water.

The boat sits in the bay.

The land is hot and busy.

Let's just sail away.

(Chorus and Repeats)

Story

This is another guitar-led instrumental piece. Starts out maybe with a bit too much Scotch (possible?). But, our hero is on an even keel not far into the song, we hope. It's just about some good food, good times, good music, and some 18-year-old Scotch, followed by a "responsible" ride home in a cab in London.

Story

Bond...James Bond. An homage to Ian Fleming's legacy.

Lyrics

I live a spy's life in deep cover,

No one can know just who I am.

My live is littered with secret lovers,

Who come and go like the drifting sands.

My only friend is total darkness,

My only love is the cloak of night.

I'm the enemy of all that is lightness,

And I always keep my enemies in my sites.

Chorus

But I spy you.

Across the room, I can see you are watching me too

I spy you.

Message received, you better believe I'm coming for you.

My missions always end in sadness,

For everyone who is involved.

Never an affair that ends tearless,

But everyone of them is resolved.

I want to come in from the cold weather,

To live in the light and heat of the day.

I'm sick to death of all the destruction,

And that is when you came my way.

(Chorus)

(Musical Bridge)

I lived a spy's life in deep cover,

No one could know just who I am.

My life was littered with secret lovers,

Who came and went like the drifting sands.

But I wanted to come in from the cold weather,

And live in the light and heat of the day.

I was sick to death of all the destruction,

And that was when you came my way.

Story

The last song is a companion piece to the first...both help to provide entry and exit points toRudiments' escapist and hopefully relaxing diversions. Just two guitars, bass, and drums to say "MAHALO" from Hawaii, and "ALOHA" until next time we meet.
